We hope that visitors will enjoy not only our farm but also the surrounding area and beyond

Meet your hosts, the Pulleyn family

A Brecks Away is the brainchild of Guy and Tracey Pulleyn, who had a vision of transforming Guy’s parents’ equestrian livery yard, Brecks Farm, into a small, premier self-catering holiday site.

Welcome to A Brecks Away

After many months of hard work, the dream has become a reality with the launch of the first holiday let – Well Cottage – which will be followed by four more superbly appointed holiday homes.

Guy said: “With my parents becoming semi-retired, we seized this opportunity to develop the site in a sustainable way and in doing so, protect both the farm and my family for the future.

“Early in 2018 I underwent spinal surgery and was advised to reconsider my career as a joiner. After discussions with my parents we decided that due to the location and nature of Brecks Farm and the number of redundant farm buildings we now have after scaling down the livery business, it lent itself perfectly to our proposal to develop the site as a tourism and leisure facility. Tracey is a part-time veterinary nurse and in her remaining time she’s also working with me on this exciting new venture.

“Our market research indicated there is a lack of self-catering accommodation in this area, so we hope visitors will enjoy the site’s unique features – it’s in the middle of the countryside, yet is only a few miles out of York. We’ve put a lot of effort into ensuring the cottages are all high-spec, with that feeling of luxury and comfort, and one will be specifically adapted to be wheelchair-friendly.”

" It lent itself perfectly to our proposal to develop the site as a tourism and leisure facility."

Future plans include developing equestrian facilities for guests who wish to bring their horses, a bicycle shed for those who like life on two wheels, and a woodland walk.

The site will be of particular interest to twitchers, as for many years the British Trust for Ornithology has rung birds at the farm to monitor numbers of native and migratory species.

“We hope that visitors will enjoy not only our farm but also the surrounding area and beyond,” Tracey added. “In the future we plan to offer stabling for those who wish to holiday with their horses. We are also developing a small nature area and walk where guests can relax and enjoy the beauty of nature and the amazing birds and animals that inhabit the farm.”
